Interview de Giuditta Arecco

Maya Enib, le 26/01/2015

Interview (english)

1/Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

It’s not easy in a few words, well I try… I’m a 29 years old "little girl". I’m from a little town and now I live in Rome.  I work in a Radio Network: RDS. I love the radio since I was 3, when my father gave me a recorder. I play guitar and I’m totally in love with music…

2/If I’m not wrong, you started in a little rock station. How did you come to work on the radio?

Yeah! I started in a little radio station, and my program was only with rock music. I started to work on the radio when I was 18. I loved music and I loved communication, so the radio was the only way to link these things. I started with the radio news, then someone liked my voice.

3/Can you explain what the RDS academy is?

Sure! It is a talent show. The first and I think the only talent show for radio personality. It's a school where expert teachers explain how to work in a radio station: how to choose news, the best way to use your voice et cetera. The winner can work on RDS.

4/How did you take the decision to take part in this contest?

My father said that this could be the last possibility to "spread my wings and fly". It’s not easy to be noticed by a large radio station if you work in a little town.

5/What was your reaction when you learned that you had been selected?

I didn’t believe it… I was spechless…

6/And one day you had to take the decision to leave for Rome...

When I won the talent show I left my town and went to Rome, where my dreams came true. I work for a big radio station. It's different but it's amazing!

7/How is it to work for one of the biggest radio stations in Italy?

It's difficult! I don't choose the music that I play, I have a lot of responsabilities, but I know that all the things that I say can be heard by a lot of people. It's incredible! The radio is really the best way to communicate.

8/Does it mean that you could choose the music on your little rock station?

Yeah! I chose all the music, and often in my program it was possible to hear Radiohead, Sigur Ros, The Smiths, but also System of a Down, Rage against the machine, and so on. It's really hard to hear this kind of music in an Italian Radio Station.

9/How was your integration with RDS?

It's perfect! Everyone is really kind with me. I'm a newby and I'm the youngest, so you can imagine...

10/ Can you explain us the typical day of a radio host?

I go to the radio one hour before my show. I look at the music that will be played and I search for news. Then I do a sort of "brainstorm" with my partner and the show begins...

11/ In your opinion, what are the qualifications needed to do this job?

I'm not the right person to answer this question, but in my opinion the perfect radio personality is someone that loves communication. If you love talking and you have a lot of things to say, then this is the perfect job for you. It's also really important to be yourself... An actor isn't the right person for a radio show!

12/ If you were not a radio host with RDS, what you would do now...?

I really don't know... Probably I would be in my little ROCK radio station...

13/ And outside of your work, what are your favorite hobbies?

I can't imagine my life without music. I play guitar and I love to expand my music horizon. I play a lot of sports too, I swim, I go to the gym, et cetera.

14/ You have already replaced giants of the radio and interviewed celebrities... Does it still happen sometimes that you get very nervous and get stage fright? How do you deal with it?

Sincerely I'm afraid till the red "on air" light is switched off. Then for me remain the microphone and me. Everything else disappear.

15/ Have you already met people you admire?

I admire all the musicians. If someone can write and sing an international hit it's always amazing. The most famous that I met is Luciano Ligabue, that is an icon in Italy. I really admire him. He's a good artist and he's also a good person.

16/ Who would you really love to interview on RDS?

I love a lot of musicians, but I really love to interview Morrisey. It could be amazing!!

17/ Do you have a funny story to tell?

It's funny when someone recognizes me outside the radio. I'm really nervous. So when someone says: "Are you Guditta?"  It'srobably that I already ran away.... It's funny for my friends, but for me it's really frightening!

18/ What are for you the advantages and disadvantages in your work?

Advantages in one word is that this job is my dream. Disadvantages FOR ME is that people recognize you, and I don't like it too much...

19/ Did this sudden fame change something in your life?

No at all! I do the same things, I have the same fears, same interests, and I don't think to be famous... I only talk in a microphone....

20/ What is your biggest fear?

I think that if something is frightening for you, you have to beat it! So I don't have a particular fear.... Maybe the only one is the disease...

21/ What do you want today?

Only what I already have!

22/ Do you have any advice for aspiring animators who want to integrate a radio station as renowned as RDS?

Yeah! This work is difficult. Respect it! And ... BE YOURSELF!

23/ A final word?

Whoa... I don' know.... PEACE?!
